Instagram Introduces Option to Switch Off Read Receipts for Direct Messages
Instagram has recently introduced a new feature that allows users to switch off read receipts for their direct messages (DMs). With this feature, users can now control when the “Read” and “Seen” indicators appear to the sender within message streams.
By accessing their IG Direct inbox, users can easily toggle off the “Seen” notification, preventing others from knowing that they have read their DM. This can be particularly useful for avoiding unwanted drama or pressure to respond immediately.
The option to switch off read receipts is available within each individual chat. Users can tap on the name of the user or group chat, select “Privacy & Safety,” and toggle off “Read Receipts” to activate the new option.
This feature can be beneficial for brands as well, as it helps in managing customer expectations. While prompt responses to customer queries are important, disabling read receipts can limit unnecessary angst.
Additionally, users have the option to turn off read receipts for all users in their “Messages and Story Replies” settings, eliminating the need to disable this feature for each individual chat.
Overall, this much-requested update provides users with more control over their social media interactions, allowing them to alleviate stress and better manage their online presence.
