Instagram Announces New Updates to Combat Spam and Junk
Instagram has introduced new updates to help reduce spam and junk on the app, aiming to ease the manual curation load on users. The updates include improved automated detection of spam and bot profiles, enabling Instagram to provide more proactive filters for spam comments and requests. Additionally, follow requests from likely spam profiles will be filtered into a separate “Potential Spam” listing for review. Instagram is also taking action on spam tags, allowing users to bulk review suspect tags for faster removal, and experimenting with hiding views on Stories from likely spam accounts. The platform is expanding its comment filtering tools to cover suspected spam replies and testing alerts to inform users of potential content restrictions. These updates aim to streamline the spam management process and improve the user experience. However, spam activity still persists, and while Instagram is working to enhance its systems, it may not eliminate all spam entirely.
