Instagram Introduces New Updates to Combat Spam and Junk
Instagram has unveiled new features to combat spam and junk on its platform, aiming to reduce the manual effort users have to put into curating their content. The updates include improved automated detection of spam and bot profiles, which will enable the platform to provide more proactive filters. This will save creators from manually sifting through spam comments and follow requests. Instagram will now automatically filter follow requests from likely spam profiles into a separate “Potential Spam” listing for users to review. The list will also include existing followers flagged as likely spam or bot accounts. Additionally, Instagram will enable users to bulk review suspect tags and remove them faster. Views on Stories from likely spam accounts will be hidden to reduce their ability to interact with users. In addition to these anti-spam measures, Instagram is expanding its Advanced Comment Filtering tools to cover suspected spam replies. The platform is also testing in-app nudges to inform users if their posts may go against Instagram’s guidelines, allowing creators to make informed choices about removing or keeping the content. These updates aim to streamline the spam management process, refine and filter audiences, and ultimately improve the user experience on Instagram.
