The Future of Education: Meta’s VR Push
A key element of Meta’s metaverse and VR push is to incorporate VR experiences into everyday life and showcase the value of immersive digital environments. This week, Meta announced the launch of a new Meta for Education beta program in partnership with universities in the U.S. and U.K. to test educational experiences for Quest devices.
Through this program, universities like Imperial College London, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Leeds will trial VR and XR prototypes in classrooms to enhance learning experiences. The goal is to eventually provide VR utility to more educational institutions and generate interest in Meta’s VR technologies.
Meta is also working with VictoryXR to develop digital “metaversities” in Europe, allowing educators and students to participate in live classes remotely within immersive environments. This initiative aims to bring VR technologies into various courses, such as Physiotherapy and Anatomy training at the University of the Basque Country.
While VR and AR devices are already used in professional sectors, Meta’s focus on education will introduce these technologies to a broader audience, driving interest in VR experiences and the metaverse shift. By partnering with educational institutions, Meta hopes to pave the way for the next generation of consumers to embrace VR technology.
