TikTok traffic sources, and what they tell you
Traffic sources tell you where a video's views came from: the For You feed, the Following feed, search, your profile, or a sound or hashtag page. The mix is more diagnostic than the total, because a falling view count with a stable mix means something quite different from a falling view count with the For You share collapsing.

What each source means
For You — recommended to people who do not follow you. For most growing accounts this is the large majority of views, and it is the one that indicates the system is actively distributing the video.
Following — people who already follow you, seeing it in their Following feed. A high share here with a low For You share usually means the video is landing with your existing audience and not being pushed beyond it.
Search — people who searched for something and found this. Small on most videos and disproportionately valuable, because search views arrive with intent and keep arriving for months.
Personal profile — someone opened your account and watched. This rises when a different video is doing well and sending people to look at the rest.
Sound and hashtag pages — people browsing a specific sound or tag. Usually a small share, and a meaningful one if you are deliberately building around a sound.
Reading a change in the mix
Views down, mix unchanged: the video was distributed the way your videos usually are, and fewer people responded. A content result, not a distribution one.
Views down, For You share collapsed, Following share up: the video went to the people who already follow you and was not pushed further. This is the pattern most consistent with recommendation ineligibility.
Views down, search share rising: often just arithmetic — search views are steady while For You views are volatile, so the search share rises whenever the total falls. Look at the search count, not the percentage.
Profile share high with a low total: someone is looking through your account. That is usually a compliment to a different video.
The trap in the percentages
Every one of these is a share of a total that is itself moving, so a percentage can climb while the underlying number falls. This produces a lot of confident, wrong conclusions.
Always convert back to counts before concluding anything. A search share that went from 4% to 11% while views fell by two thirds is a smaller number of search views, not a bigger one.
Why this matters to matched distribution
Attention that arrives from a link is not the same thing as attention that arrives through the For You feed, and it would be dishonest to imply otherwise. PodSwap's own risk assessment states it plainly: it is genuinely unknown whether deep-linked, off-feed attention moves TikTok distribution the way in-feed attention does. Every source in the category assumes it; none demonstrates it.
That is why the TikTok side promises matched distribution, early qualitative feedback and measurement — not views, not reach, and not followers. The traffic-source breakdown is where you would look to judge whether it did anything at all, and it is the reason that number is published here rather than glossed over.
Common questions
What is a good For You percentage?
There is no target. A large account with a loyal audience can be healthy at a much lower share than a new one, because it has more followers to reach. Watch the direction over several videos, not the number on one.
Why do some videos show almost no For You traffic?
Either it was not recommended, or it was recommended and early viewers did not stay. The engagement-rate comparison distinguishes them.
Is search traffic worth optimising for?
Search views are a small share and they persist for months instead of days, and they arrive from people who were already looking for the subject. For most accounts it is undervalued.
